HLTV demos with missing rounds

Demos from HLTV often show “Round 0” in CS2 and won't skip rounds. They're fixed automatically on upload, and you can export a repaired file for the game.

Demos downloaded from HLTV or ESL often lack round information. Upload one to cs2coach and that's fixed automatically — the 2D replay works as usual. To watch it properly in the game, export a repaired file.

Symptoms

Played in CS2, the demo shows “Round 0” the whole time, and the skip-round buttons do nothing.
In cs2coach you usually won't notice anything: the rounds were worked out again from the match itself during processing. The “Repair” column in the demo library says “N fixed” or “N to review”.

Watching it in cs2coach

Upload it as usual; the .rar from HLTV doesn't need unpacking. An archive of a whole series is split into one demo per map.

Playing it properly in the game

Open “Repair demo” under “Tools” in the sidebar.
Under “How should rounds start?”, pick “Classic” or “Without freeze time”.
Drop the demo in. If it's already in your demo library, select it on the page instead.
When it's done, click “Download repaired file”.
Put the file in CS2's game/csgo/ folder and type playdemo followed by the file name in the game console.

The repaired file is kept for 24 hours; after that you can generate it again.

Checking by hand

Click “Health check & repair” in the demo's row menu in the demo library and look at “Issues found”:

Entries marked “handled automatically” need nothing from you.
For entries marked “needs review” or “handled by inference — please check”, watch the rounds they mention in the replay.

Common cases

The knife round was counted as round 1　Enter 2 under “First live round” in the repair options and click “Save and reprocess”. This takes an admin or analyst.

The last round has no winner　The recording ended in the middle of the round, so it has no result. That can't be restored.

The repaired file still isn't right in the game　Results depend on the game version, and not every demo can be repaired. Tell us which demo through Contact us.

It says “Failed” right after upload　See When processing fails.
